Özet

Home confinement as a result of COVID-19-related restrictions led to unhealthy behavior, including the adoption of unbalanced high-calorie diets, an increase in sedentary behavior and reduced physical activity, increased use of alcohol and tobacco products, and an increase in screen time and disrupted sleep patterns. Many of these habits are linked to noncommunicable diseases and have the potential to compromise immunity. There are no miracle foods or diets that can prevent or cure COVID-19. A well-balanced and stable diet, on the other hand, is an important component of a powerful immune system. Despite the fact that malnutrition and hunger are associated with weakened immune responses and increased susceptibility to infectious disease, Western-style energy-dense diets, as well as overweight and obesity, may compromise pathogen defense and immunity. As a result, food and diet will assist in maintaining a healthy body weight and preventing noncommunicable diseases. A physically active lifestyle can help to reduce the detrimental physical and mental effects of extended periods of social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since sleep and immunity are intertwined, adequate immune function necessitates adequate restorative sleep. To reduce the immune system’s disturbance and boost the ability to cope with infections, smoking rates must be decreased, and alcohol consumption must be restricted. The emerging dilemma confronting policymakers and healthcare professionals necessitates a focus on scientific strategies that have the greatest chance of success. Providing correct lifestyle awareness and successful approaches to individuals and communities during the pandemic is important. Observational studies of lifestyle habits are needed for the development of effective and evidence-based public policies. Physical isolation and face masks are unquestionably the best ways to protect against the novel coronavirus at this time. On the other hand, reasonable lifestyle improvements in terms of diet, exercise, sleep, smoking, and alcohol intake will help to shift the population’s infection risk distribution and prevent extreme COVID-19 outcomes.
