Özet:

Harvesting energy from various sources, antenna radiation, rectifier conversion efficiency antenna size and rectenna are important factors to consider when designing an antenna for energy harvesting in the ambient. This thesis presents a multiband hexagonal microstrip antenna and rectifier that are combined to optimize the RF capture and RF-to-DC conversion. The microstrip antenna fabricated on an FR4 substrate, is built to harvest energy from GSM-1800, and the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi bands. The slot on patch and a slotted feedline technique are used for better impedance matching and impedance bandwidth enhancement of the microstrip antenna with a peak gain of 1.1 dB and 1.47 dB at 1.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz respectively. Two single-stage voltage doubler rectifiers are proposed, one operating at 1.8 GHz and another at 2.4 GHz. They are designed in ADS and fabricated on FR4 substrate. An impedance matching network is implemented on the rectifier to improve the RF- to DC conversion efficiency reaching above 60% at 10 dBm input power for both frequency bands. These results from the proposed rectenna demonstrate that the RF energy harvesting system can be used to power-up low power IoT sensor platforms.
