Özet:

Next Generation wireless networking comprises of different radio access techniques referred to as heterogeneous networks. To maintain connectivity, user will often switch between various networks with varying radio access techniques referred to as vertical handover/handoff. It is very important that users should have ubiquitous and seamless access to these heterogeneous networks to operate various real-time applications. Hence study of integrated Cellular and WLAN network is very vital and the handoff performance analysis of this integrated system is very essential in terms of QOS requirement and performance characteristics for proper system design.

This thesis is about simulation of an integrated Cellular networks and WLAN. Here the WLAN is installed inside the cellular network. A specific system, two staged queuing system is considered for this purpose. This system has been proposed and analyzed for exact solution technique by researchers from Middlesex University and published in IEEE paper titled “An Analytical Approach for Performance Analysis of Handoffs in the Next Generation Integrated Cellular Networks and WLANs”. The simulation result shows performance characteristics, the mean queue length values for both cellular network and WLAN. The simulation is being carried out on a network simulator-2, a discrete event simulator which is basically used for networking research purpose for wired and wireless networks.
