Asst. Prof. HASAN ZAİFOĞLU

Dr. Hasan Zaifoğlu has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Program at Middle East Technical University, Northern Cyprus Campus, since September 2019. He received his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2011 and his M.Sc. degree in Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering from the same university in 2013. He completed his Ph.D. at Middle East Technical University, Ankara Campus, in the Water Resources Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department. His doctoral research focused on analyzing flood problems in Nicosia and developing a practical flood management system for data-scarce urban areas.

Before joining METU Northern Cyprus Campus, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at University of Surrey in the United Kingdom. He was supported by the European Union scholarship program for Turkish Cypriots during his research periods abroad, including his work in the UK and, in the summer of 2024, as a visiting researcher at Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection (IRPI-CNR) in Italy.

Since October 2023, he has been serving as the Chair of the Dormitories Executive Board at Middle East Technical University, Northern Cyprus Campus. Since January 2026, Dr. Zaifoğlu has been a member of the Climate and Environment Board of the Presidency of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He also serves as a Board Member of the ODTÜ KKK-KTMMOB İMO Afet Merkezi (AFMER). Since 2019, he has been a member of the Chamber of Civil Engineers Water Committee and is also a Board Member of the METU NCC Continuing Education Center.

His research interests include flood modeling and management, hydraulic and hydrological modeling, statistical hydrology, drought analysis, climate change impacts, and geographic information systems, with a particular focus on modeling hydro-climatic processes and extreme events in data-scarce regions.
